When Daddy Comes Home

On April 22, 1945, two weeks before the end of World War II, Pfc. Tom T. Wilmeth was killed in the line of duty. He left behind a wife, Martha, and three young children - Karolyn, Tom and Donna. For the next fifty-six years, Karolyn struggled to fill the hole left by the loss of her father. Finally, at the age of sixty-two, she began the journey to rediscover her father, and to rediscover herself. This is a story of what it truly means to make the ultimate sacrifice in service of one's country. It is a story of the incredible and too often forgotten strength of those who were left behind. It is a story of the hole that grief can make and of how to find yourself again. But most of all, it is a story of love: the love story of two remarkable people, Tom and Martha; a story of love for this great country; and the story of the love of a daughter for her extraordinary father.
